Ilkley’s Green Councillor Ros Brown has spoken out about Starbucks erecting a 9-metre-high sign on the Wheatley Lane drive-thru site without first gaining planning permission.
The planning application for the sign is due to be decided by Bradford Council on 1st July.
“A resident took this photo of the sign this morning with me standing next to the base to the right. I’m 5’5” and can barely be seen showing just how ridiculously large and inappropriate the sign is for the area. It will shine light into residents’ bedroom windows adding to the nuisance they’ll already experience from the drive-thru being open until 11pm at night.
“I have written to the Planning team to object strongly to this action and application. Residents are expected to follow the correct planning permission procedures yet Starbucks clearly feel they can do what they like regardless of the rules and costs.
“I urge the Planning team to reject this application and ensure the sign is removed at Starbucks’ expense and not Bradford Council’s enforcement team’s budget.”
